PT Pindad Reviews JATIM Steel Facilities, Encourages Expansion of Local Steel Usage

As part of efforts to strengthen national industrial synergy, PT Pindad visited the production facilities of JATIM Steel on April 21, 2026.
This visit marked a strategic step in exploring the expanded use of locally produced steel as a primary raw material in the defense manufacturing industry.
The visit began at the steelmaking facility in Sidoarjo, where the PINDAD team directly observed the steel production process, including Vacuum Degassing (VD) technology, which plays a crucial role in producing high-quality steel with improved purity and homogeneity—essential for special steel applications.
The delegation then continued to the Hot Rolling Mill and Auto Inspection facilities at Plant 2 in Gresik, which are vital in ensuring dimensional consistency, surface quality, and product reliability before delivery to customers.
The main focus of the visit was a technical discussion regarding the development and expansion plans for various types of alloy steel (special steel) required by PINDAD. Discussions covered material characteristics, production processes, and facility readiness to support more complex technical specifications.
The visit was positively welcomed by JATIM Steel, showcasing its production capabilities and manufacturing process advantages—from chemical composition control and advanced refining processes to integrated automatic inspection systems.
More than just a visit, this agenda signaled a strong commitment toward greater collaboration between the national steel industry and the defense sector, moving toward greater independence in strategic domestic materials.
With continuous technological support and ongoing development, JATIM Steel remains optimistic about becoming one of the key partners in supplying national special steel, while also promoting the increased use of local steel for high-value applications.
